Best Cheesecake East to West
I’m a cheesecake nut, and one of the things I made a point of doing during a cross-country trip a couple of years ago was tasting the cheesecake in both Philadelphia and New York, in the hopes of finding the best I’ve ever had.
I was sorely disappointed, especially when I realized the best cheesecake I’ve ever had was purchased at…the grocery store.
Although the cheesecake here comes close, my favorite is made by Studebaker Cheesecake in Boyes Hot Springs, Calif., and sold in local Nugget Markets and at the Co-Op (where I shop).

Studebaker’s cheesecake is dense, sour and perfectly ensconced in a graham cracker crust. (I bought one here once, and it was made in a pie crust! Can you imagine?).
Studebaker’s Cheesecakes are available in a variety of flavors, but when it comes to cheesecake, I’m a bit of a traditionalist–I like it plain and simple.
